Born On The Water

Bíghter Lures spawned during a slow day fishing yellowtail off La Jolla. While waiting on the tide, my friend Lucas Dirkse started picking through a tray of fresh stickbaits and asked how we could make them. “Oh, it would be pretty easy, you’d just have to…” A short pause followed then, “well if it’s so . . . easy, why aren’t you doing it?” I downloaded a CAD license that night and the endeavor started.

At first, it was just to see if we could make something that worked. A nights and weekends hobby while I was in grad school, working on my doctorate. Periodically I'd break away to jump on a commercial trip with Lucas on his panga, usually foamer fishing bluefin. This was where the Pínchovy concept first originated. The lures we wanted didn't exist, so we'd have to make them ourselves. And conveniently I had an engineering background to facilitate it.

It took some time to translate theory into practice, but after a year or so of design work and tuning the first prototypes we had a bonafide proof of concept. Well-timed developments in additive manufacturing technology on the consumer side accelerated development further, and the refinement process started really taking off. We started realizing a lot of what we had set out to do, which brings us to now.

At its core, Bíghter Lures is an engineering company backed by relentlessly passionate anglers. Our mission is to produce not just another lure, but an evolutionary difference driven by cutting-edge technology and manufacturing techniques. We’re just happy we can share that with you, and look forward to revealing what we have planned. This is only the beginning.

Our Guarantee

"A lifetime warranty is worthless when you're out in the field and you need it to work"

At Bíghter we build lures that are designed to last fish after fish after fish under nominal fishing conditions. While we can't cover breakage from a lure getting backed over at the ramp, or crushed by a seat, if something does fail in the normal course of fishing please let us know so we can make it right. Things happen in manufacturing, and as hard as we may try to be perfect, it would be naive not to expect it to some degree. So, while we can't guarantee perfection, we can guarantee to strive towards it, and enthusiastically welcome feedback to guide future manufacturing and/or design changes.

Lures may have some minor cosmetic defects, these are not collector items that should sit in a box and never see saltwater, they are tools that are meant to be fished. All lures should be free of performance and durability-related defects. If you encounter one that is not, please contact us.

  • Made in the USA

We manufacture all of our lures, tooling, and components in house with a few exceptions, and these components are all sourced or made in San Diego or the greater Southern California area whenever possible. Even our packaging is made locally. By purchasing Bíghter Lures you're not just supporting American manufacturing, but you're directly sustaining and creating jobs in
    your community.

  • Our Part

Manufacturing is in of itself not the most environmentally friendly. At Bíghter Lures we are committed to making any and all improvements where feasible to reduce our footprint, even if they cost more. We have absolutely no lead in our shop, nor in any of our lures. Our resins offgas no VOCs and we use LEED certified materials wherever possible. Our packaging is all made from recycled or repurposed scrap paper product to be saltwater degradable and marine life safe.
